United Dairy Farmers First In This Region To Offer Latest Convenience In Gasoline Retail
-- Speedpass Leads New Wave of Consumer Convenience Technology --
CINCINNATI, OH – (Nov. 26, 2001) – Just in time to accommodate heavy holiday traffic and winter weather, United Dairy Farmers is introducing Speedpass, the newest and most advanced pay-at-the-pump technology that is free to customers.
Hate to wait while your credit card clears before pumping gas? Tired of digging around in your pockets and wallet for change or credit cards when your car is running on empty? Dread the thought of braving the cold winter weather to pump your own gas?
As of Dec. 3, Speedpass will make pumping gas easier and faster than ever before. In the Southwest Ohio area, 121 United Dairy Farmers stores that sell Mobil gasoline will also offer Speedpass. Speedpass will be available in 76 Greater Cincinnati stores, 36 central Ohio/Columbus stores and in nine Dayton/Miami Valley stores.
Consumers can now wave the small Speedpass transponder stored in a key chain fob in the designated area on the gasoline pump to begin fueling. Speedpass can also be activated with a small transponder placed in the corner of the rear window nearest the gasoline pump. Speedpass instantly records the transaction and bills the pre-designated credit or check card account. There is no waiting at the pump for authorization, and cards and cash are not needed. Speedpass can also be used for purchasing in-store items at Mobil-branded United Dairy Farmers.
When motorists travel outside of the tri-state, Speedpass is available at Mobil stations throughout the nation and will be available in Exxon stations later in 2002. Speedpass is already used by more than four million people in the United States and is especially convenient for commuters and “road warriors” who need to fill up regularly and track expenses. To ensure the safety of consumer credit information and purchases, Speedpass operates on a unique radio frequency identification code protected from outside infiltration and unauthorized use. Speedpass does not store data on consumer purchases.
“Speedpass has already been successfully tested by McDonald’s restaurants in the Chicago area, and won the attention of retailers in many industries across the nation,” said Frank Cogliano, vice president of retail operations, United Dairy Farmers. “One of the reasons United Dairy Farmers decided to offer Speedpass now is because we believe that it will be a technology that consumers will quickly adopt and begin expecting from many other retailers within a few years. We wanted to be the first to offer it in the markets where we operate stores.
“This summer, UDF announced that it had teamed up with ExxonMobil, the world’s largest petroleum company, to be the sole distributor of Mobil gasoline products in Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and central Ohio,” Cogliano said. “Speedpass is the next step in the evolution of the Mobil-UDF partnership.”
Speedpass enrollment materials are now available at Mobil-branded UDF stores, logging onto www.speedpass.com or by calling 1-877-MY-MOBIL. UDF customers can also apply.
Founded by the Lindner family in 1940, United Dairy Farmers is still a family business managed by Robert Lindner, Sr. and his sons Brad, president; Robert Jr., treasurer; and David, vice president of marketing. In addition to operating dairy convenience stores, the company manufactures and distributes branded milk, ice cream and dairy products under the United Dairy FarmersTM, Homemade BrandTM Premium Ice Cream, Krazy KreamsTM and Micro ShakeTM brand names. UDF’s Homemade BrandTM Premium Ice Cream is sold in leading grocery chains in several states as well as in UDF stores.
